Types of outpatient mental health for teens

Teen outpatient mental health care is typically categorized into three levels—outpatient, PHP, and IOP. Our clinicians will assess your child’s needs to ensure that they receive the individualized support they need.

Day Treatment (PHP)

  • Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a comprehensive treatment option that allows teens to return home each night. It’s a good choice for adolescents who need more than weekly therapy but not round-the-clock residential care.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

  • Teen IOP bridges the gap between basic outpatient and intensive residential treatment, typically including weekday, after-school sessions that offer ongoing support. This level of care allows adolescents to continue their daily life as they practice new coping skills in real-world situations.

Outpatient

  • Outpatient care is the least intensive form of treatment and usually includes a few hours of targeted therapy per week based on individual needs. It’s a good fit when the crisis phase is over and a teen needs continued support to build skills and prevent relapse.

Why choose our adolescent outpatient program for your Chandler teen?

  • Intensive programming: PHP provides structured programming approximately 4–6 hours per day, 5 days a week. This focused daily support helps teens develop healthy habits and coping skills.
  • Flexibility: Teens return home each evening, which helps them maintain connections with family and friends.
  • Peer support: Struggling teens often feel isolated. Group sessions offer a safe space to share experiences and find encouragement.
  • Proximity: Located in nearby Scottsdale, our outpatient facility ensures an easy commute while providing an extra layer of privacy and anonymity for teens from Chandler.

What is PHP treatment?

At our outpatient treatment facility in Scottsdale, our primary offering is a partial hospitalization program (PHP). It provides teens the support they need to function better at home, school, and in the community.

Program Schedule

  • PHP therapy at our Scottsdale location runs Monday to Friday, providing the consistency your child needs to make meaningful progress on their recovery journey.

Program Length

  • While most teens are in PHP for approximately six weeks, it’s not a one-size-fits-all program. Clinical recommendations are provided based on your teen’s specific needs.

Program Setting

  • Because open expression is critical to healing and growth, we’ve created an environment where teens feel comfortable sharing their struggles without fear of judgment.
