Types of adolescent outpatient mental health care
Teen mental health outpatient care is generally categorized into three levels—outpatient, PHP, and IOP. Our clinicians will conduct an assessment to ensure that your child receives the level of care that best suits their needs.
Day Treatment (PHP)
- Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is ideal for teens who need more than weekly therapy but don’t require 24/7 care. This approach allows your teen to maintain their daily routines while receiving the care and support they need.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
- Teen IOP bridges the gap between basic outpatient and intensive residential treatment. Participants typically attend weekday, after-school sessions that offer ongoing support without disrupting regular routines.
Outpatient
- The least intensive form of treatment, outpatient care typically includes a few hours of targeted therapy per week. With sessions tailored to individual needs, it’s a great way to maintain progress and help prevent setbacks.

Clinical expertise you can depend on
At the heart of our approach is a team of skilled mental health professionals with deep understanding of adolescent psychology, genuine compassion, and exceptional emotional intelligence to support your teen throughout their recovery.
What is PHP treatment?
At our outpatient treatment facility in Scottsdale, our primary offering is a partial hospitalization program (PHP). It provides teens the support they need to function better at home, school, and in the community.
Program Schedule
- PHP therapy at our Scottsdale location runs Monday to Friday, providing the consistency your child needs to make meaningful progress on their recovery journey.
Program Length
- While most teens are in PHP for approximately six weeks, it’s not a one-size-fits-all program. Clinical recommendations are provided based on your teen’s specific needs.
Program Setting
- Because open expression is critical to healing and growth, we’ve created an environment where teens feel comfortable sharing their struggles without fear of judgment.
Compassionate care for a wide range of challenges
When your teen is struggling, finding the right help feels overwhelming. Our experienced team at Avery’s House provides compassionate and effective solutions for a wide range of teen mental health challenges, including
- Depression and low mood
- Anxiety and panic
- Trauma
- ADHD and focus issues
- PTSD
- Suicidal ideation and self-harm thoughts
- Substance use disorders
- Bullying and victimization
Note: To ensure the safety and well-being of all our clients, teens requiring intensive intervention for severe substance use disorders, violence, or certain complex psychiatric conditions, we are happy to provide referrals to specialized resources to ensure they receive the best possible support.
